About the Press
Bull City Press, an independent, volunteer-run small press based in North Carolina, was born in 2006. We publish chapbooks and occasionally full-length books, as well as the quarterly journal Inch. While we started with a mostly-poetry approach, we launched a line of fiction and nonfiction chapbooks when we merged with Origami Zoo Press in 2015. We also host events in the Durham/Chapel Hill area of North Carolina when we’re able. We love readers, and we love writers. We want to make sure they find each other.
So that we can both pay the writers we publish and keep readers’ costs low, we are staffed entirely by volunteers. No one draws a salary from the press, so we can put all proceeds into creating new chapbooks. You can find more information on our staff here. Each year, we publish the winner of the Frost Place Chapbook Competition.
Through a partnership with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, we give students the chance to learn editing, design, and publishing skills by working on Bull City Press titles. Students have provided invaluable feedback to authors, created book jackets and interiors, and developed marketing materials for several books.
Join our mailing list by visiting http://bullcitypress.eo.page. We send infrequent updates and do not share your information with anyone. We promise. That would not be cool at all.
You can see full submissions information under the “Submissions” tab.
Bull City Press titles are available to the trade via Small Press Distribution. Classes and reading groups can get discounted copies of all Bull City Press publications. Please contact salesbullcitypress.com or call (919) 883-5585 for more information. All sales via the Bull City Press website are final.
