Our statement about not attending #AWP20

Bull City Press staff and authors have been in close touch about the upcoming AWP conference, and have been monitoring AWP’s response to the news that a person released from quarantine in San Antonio tested positive for corona virus.

We regret to inform you that Bull City Press is canceling our table at the bookfair. Your health and safety are far more important to us than any conference, any reading, or any book signing will ever be. We are very concerned about how local San Antonio officials may respond in the coming days (with respect to travel restrictions & quarantines). We are also measuring our responsibilities to our local communities, since we come regularly into contact with immuno-compromised students and loved ones.

Many Bull City Press authors are still attending the conference, and due to the tremendous efforts of our partner presses and journals (Autumn House Press, Construction Lit, Birdcoat Quarterly, and New South), our offsite readings will still be held. We hope you’ll support those folks if you make the decision to travel to San Antonio.

Because we will not be at the book fair, we’re offering our AWP prices through our web site, with no coupon code needed. All books are $10, three for $24.99, or five for $40.

AWP sales generally account for 20% of our operating budget each year, so this decision hurts. We know it’s a lot to ask, but we’re asking: please help this small, independent, volunteer-run press stay afloat.

Love,
Ross, Noah, and the Bull City Press family
